Drew Barrymore watches romantic comedies when she has had a “crap day”.

The actress, who stars opposite on/off boyfriend Justin Long in new movie ‘Going the Distance,’ admits a good rom-com always puts a smile on her face when life is getting the better of her.

She said, “I need them (rom-coms) at the end of a crap day – a nice happy ending and a fairytale.

“On the other hand I like movies that are very grounded in reality but still maintain their comedy.”

Although Drew enjoys the often light-hearted genre, she doesn’t relate to movies which depict women as wedding obsessed and needy.

She added to the London Evening Standard newspaper, “I swear to God, with some of these romantic comedies, these women are being shot in the butt with steroids, and I feel like they’ll eat the husband alive on their wedding day. It just terrifies me – I don’t relate to that at all. I’m not at that place in my life where I want to play a character who says, ‘I just have to get married.’ “
